Portman Space at Venice Biennale
Contribution by Charles Rice + Alina McConnochie to the US Pavillion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2010
Research undertaken by Charles and Alina underpinned the exhibition of John Portman’s Peachtree Centre in Atlanta as part of the US Pavilion at the 2010 Venice Biennale. The digital model which we created as part of our Portman Space research has been used by Portman and Associates to create a 3m x 2m model of the Peachtree Centre Development for the exhibition. Read more about our involvement, the American Pavilion, and view the Image Feed.
The model forms the centrepiece of the Portman exhibit, with the different buildings of the centre illuminated in synchronisation with a montage of images. While the digital model was constructed from published plans of the buildings and information drawn from Google Earth, it provided Portman and Associates with exceedingly accurate information about their own architecture, and enabled them to produce the exhibition model in a short space of time.
